Ropes and crane technology
What is crane technology?
According to DGUV regulations 52 and 53, crane technology states that cranes are lifting devices that can lift loads using a load-bearing device and also move them in one or more directions. The following movement options are available for cranes:
-
Lifting and moving in one direction
-
Lifting and moving in several directions
-
Lifting and swiveling
When it comes to the operating options for cranes, a distinction is made between partially powered, powered or manually operated.
What types of cranes are there?
When selecting the right crane, the requirements for the lifting processes play an important role. According to DIN 15 001-1, cranes are differentiated from one another based on their design and according to DIN 15 001-2 based on their use. The following types of cranes are available, among others:
-
jib cranes and slewing cranes (including pillar slewing cranes and wall slewing cranes)
-
Bridge cranes
-
Swing arm cranes
Inspection of cranes
In order to ensure that employees are protected from hazards, a crane inspection is necessary . First of all, § 14 "Testing of work equipment" of the Industrial Safety Ordinance (BetrSichV) applies. In addition, the Industrial Safety Ordinance specifies special conditions for the testing of cranes. The testing regulations, which additionally set out in Appendix 3 Section 1 "Cranes" (BetrSichV) apply to most types of cranes. A crane inspection can only be carried out by a person who, through their professional training, professional experience and recent professional activity, has the necessary knowledge to inspect work equipment (BetrSichV §2 (6 )). Crane inspections are therefore often carried out by so-called crane experts.
